IMDG e-learning goes Dutch – Hazardous Cargo Bulletin
Exis Technologies and New Learning Factory (NLF) have launched a Dutch language version of Exis’ International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) e-learning (Amendment 35-10), a computer-based training tool for shoreside staff involved in the handling and transport of dangerous goods shipped by sea. The ‘Basiscursus’ – or ‘Basic Course’ – provides a general awareness of all facets of the IMDG Code provisions. The Dutch version the launch of the English course in The Netherlands in 2009 in partnership with New Learning Factory.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) made IMDG Code training mandatory shoreside staff from January 2010 as a step towards addressing this continuing problem. IMDG Code training is now a requirement for shippers and forwarders, container packers and consolidators, shipping line booking staff, stevedores, and terminal operators. IMDG Code e-learning was developed with the and industry bodies to address the urgent need to train large worldwide economically and flexibly, but to a high standard.
The Dutch course is available on the web or as SCORM packages for integration company’s own Learning Management System (LMS). NLF also offers function IMDG Code training in English for those personnel that require more advanced Both the Basic and Function-Specific courses can be followed up with classroom training either in Dutch or English for a blended learning approach. Blended qualifies for a training subsidy fund of up to 75 per cent from the European Industry Grant in cooperation with EasyCursus.nl.
Although to date IMDG Code shoreside training has not been enforced Netherlands, the Inspectie Verkeer en Waterstaat recently commented that would be imposed from 2012 if companies fail to provide sufficient training staff.
Arnold Einhaus, NLF’s general manager, says: “We are delighted to have a Dutch version of the course to sell into our market. I think the course, combined with the subsidy and classroom based teaching will offer companies an ideal way to meet the training requirements.
